The NationBuilder integration

The NationBuilder integration issues CRA donation receipts for the donations in your NationBuilder nation. It is for Canadian charities that already use NationBuilder to take donations, and it is separate from the Create and Bulk pages.

What it does

  • Imports succeeded donations from your nation for a date range.
  • Shows a preview of what will get a receipt, what needs a look and what is skipped. Nothing is issued until you say so.
  • Makes the receipts as PDFs, can email them to donors and keeps a download of the PDFs for you.
  • Writes a note about each receipt back to the donation in NationBuilder.
  • After every import, manual or background, checks receipted donations again and flags any that later change.
  • Supports correcting a receipt you have issued.

It doesn't change a donation's amount, date or donor.

What it can't receipt

  • Gifts in kind, such as goods, stock or auction items. Make those on Create a receipt.
  • A donation whose advantage is more than 80% of the gift.
  • A nation that records donations in a currency other than CAD.

What it costs

The integration uses organization credits or an Annual Integration Pass, bought inside the integration's Credits tab. A personal pass or your personal credits don't pay for it. A cash receipt costs 1 organization credit. A gift with advantage, a correction or a re-issue costs 2. See Credits and passes.

Setup in short

  1. Sign in on this site and open the NationBuilder integration.
  2. Enter your nation's slug, the part before .nationbuilder.com, and click Connect. You are sent to NationBuilder to approve access. Use an account that can authorize apps and edit donations.
  3. On the Receipt configuration tab, a connection manager fills in your charity details, logo, signature and contact email, and confirms the receipt profile, that your nation uses CAD and that these are outright cash gifts.
  4. On the Import tab, choose a date range, review the preview, pick the donations and issue.

What is kept

The integration keeps what it needs to run: the donation details and donor name and email from your nation, what it takes to reproduce each receipt for corrections, and your connection details in encrypted form. See What we keep.
