The Gift Type choice is at the top of Gift Information on Create a receipt. It changes which extra fields appear.

Cash Donation

This is the default. It covers a gift of money, including an e-transfer. It has no extra fields. If you are not signed in, it is the only type you can choose, and it uses the free daily receipt when that is available. See Free tier.

To process a lot of e-transfers, the Bulk page is faster than one receipt at a time.

Gift-in-Kind

For a donated item rather than money. You describe the item and say how its value was worked out. For an appraised item, you also give the appraiser's name and address. See Gift-in-kind receipts.

Gift with Advantage

For a gift where the donor received something in return, such as a dinner ticket. The receipt shows the total received, the value of the advantage, and the eligible amount. See Gift with advantage receipts.

Why two of them are greyed out

If you are not signed in, Gift-in-Kind and Gift with Advantage are disabled and labelled (Credits Required). Sign in and buy credits, or use a pass, to use them.

If you are signed in but have no credits and no pass, you get a message that you need credits for this receipt type. The free daily receipt only covers a cash receipt.

Credits at a glance

  • A cash receipt: 1 credit.
  • Gift-in-kind or gift with advantage: 2 credits each.
  • With an active pass, these are covered. The form shows Covered by your unlimited pass.

Prices and passes are in Credits and passes. For the CRA's rules, see What a CRA official donation receipt must show and CRA sources.
